Photo Session Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What types of photo sessions do you do?

I concentrate on portraits, offering sessions that range from dance and swimsuits to maternity and fashion. I use lighting on stands that are set up for each shot so people need to pose in range of the lights. I use portable powerful strobe lights with Softboxes (wind permitting).

Please see Types of Photo Sessions for more information.

What type of locations work best for photo sessions?

I uses two outdoor locations regularly with little problems. Your home can work well with or without backdrops. Unfamiliar locations can have permission and background problems.

Please see Photo Session Locations for more information.

What is Time for Print (TFP)?

Time for Print (TFP) is when neither the photographer or the client gets paid. The client normally has celebrity status or a large social media following. The photographer normally provides the client with photos for their modeling time.

Why do photo sessions cost so much?

Most photo sessions have four elements:

  • Office Time 2 to 4 hours including scheduling, billing, photo archiving and management
  • Travel Time 2 to 5 hours or more including loading, unloading and cleaning equipment
  • Session Time 1 1/2 to 3 hours including setup and breakdown of lighting equipment, backdrops and camera settings
  • Editing Time 1/4 to 1 hour per photo depending on clients skin, sky and natural background conditions or backdrop

A typical beach session can take 10 to 14 total hours. A typical park session can take 6 to 10 total hours.
